Benchwood Kitchens stays faithful to quality with handmade dovetail joints.

Here at Benchwood Kitchens, the designer, manufacturer and installer of premium, handmade bespoke kitchens,  we are one of few UK businesses capable of hand producing the coveted dovetail joint.

The dovetail joint is a sophisticated joinery technique. Comprising interlocking wedge-shaped elements, pins and tails, it is resistant to applied forces, such as pulling. This makes the dovetail joint a common choice for drawer makers.

Most furniture makers create the dovetail joint using machinery. While this can speed up production, hand cut joints are invariably tighter and smoother. This creates a higher quality, premium feel to the craftsmanship.

We pride ourselves on our handmade dovetail joints. They assure our customers they’re getting a quality bespoke service that’s hard to find elsewhere.

We also have our logo handcarved into the kitchen drawers by experienced lettering carver, Terry Moss. Terry has been woodcarving since 1962. A former member of the prestigious Sculptree team, he has carved on items from the daintiest bauble to giant chain saw carvings.

Founder, Rob Woodward, trained with renowned furniture maker David Savage, gaining the skills needed to offer a higher quality handcrafted kitchen.

David Savage is a bespoke furniture designer, who has spent over 35 years making and designing fine furniture. He has taught shop and kitchen fitters, French polishers, antique restorers and joiners since 1984

David’s woodwork appears in the 2011 Kodansha International publication, Furniture with Soul. Written by David, the book also explores the work of nine other world class woodworking and furniture making workshops.
